Successful first golf tournament hosted by NICC Athletics

The Northeast Iowa Community College (NICC) athletic department hosted the First Annual Cougar Athletics Golf Tournament, formerly the NICC Foundation Golf Tournament, on May 22 at Oneota Golf & Country Club in Decorah. Twenty-five groups competed to raise money for student-athlete scholarships in the Class of 2025-26.

"The NICC Athletics Golf Tournament was the first event that our department had the pleasure of hosting since our inception, and I could not be more pleased with the turnout, the weather cooperating for us all day and the support of local businesses and individuals who are excited about NICC Athletics," Athletic Director Nick Weinmeister said. "So many people played a crucial role in making this tournament the success that it was. I'm thankful for each and every member of the team that helped make it a special day. Finally, I would like to thank all of our sponsors, Oneota Golf & Country Club, for hosting us and all of the participants. The future is bright for NICC Athletics and I am already looking forward to the event in 2026."

In total, 97 golfers played and represented 15 area businesses. Several other teams of NICC employees also competed, while 11 other companies supported via hole sponsorship.

The team of Ryan Kreitzer, Austin Vsetecka, Jon Berland and Ryan Manske won the tournament with a score of 60; an Assured Partners group finished in second with a 61; and a Stanley Engineered Fastening team rounded out the podium with a 62.
