Cougar Baseball/Softball finds home in Farley
"I am grateful to the City of Farley and the Parks and Recreation Division for their willingness to partner with NICC Athletics and make Farley Park the home of Cougar Baseball and Softball,” Head Softball Coach and Athletic Director Nick Weinmeister said.
The Northeast Iowa Community College (NICC) Athletic Department and the City of Farley recently agreed to terms on a contract that will make Farley Park the home of Cougar Baseball and Softball through 2027.
"I am grateful to the City of Farley and the Parks and Recreation Division for their willingness to partner with NICC Athletics and make Farley Park the home of Cougar Baseball and Softball," Head Softball Coach and Athletic Director Nick Weinmeister said. "Farley Park is a great facility that fits the needs of both programs, and we are excited to start packing the stands for scrimmages and games beginning in the fall."
Cougar Baseball will play at Paul Scherrman Field. The diamond has a concessions stand, stadium-style seating, two batting cages and a restroom all in the complex. The dimensions of the diamond are 330 ft. to the corners, 340 to left and right center and 370 to center field.
NICC Softball will play at the diamond directly behind the baseball field. This diamond shares a concession stand with the baseball field, has two batting cages and measures 190 ft. to the corners and 210 to center field.
The programs are happy that a deal was able to be reached and are excited to bring their teams to Farley.
"We're very excited for Paul Scherrman Field to be the home of Cougar Baseball," Head Coach Conner Klostermann said. "The playing surface is as good as it gets in the area, and the facility will provide a great experience for our fans and supporters. We can't wait to get our team on the field this fall."
The College is looking forward to working with the City of Farley over the next couple of years and bringing sports entertainment to local residents in surrounding communities.
"The City of Farley and the Farley Park Board are thrilled to partner with NICC as this collaboration opens up exciting opportunities to foster growth and skill development within our community while building on the love of baseball that is so rich in eastern Iowa," Amy Kluesner, Board President, said. "Together, we will empower the next generation of players and coaches to create a lasting impact on NICC and the surrounding area."
Located at the end of 5th Ave. Northeast in Farley is the entrance to Farley Park. Upon entrance, a looped roadway takes you to the diamonds located on the east side of the park. A fully accessible parking area is available right next to the diamonds, making it a short distance to the seating.
