Churchman and Fenwick earn ICCAC honors
“We are happy to come away with two all-region selections after year one,” Coach Conner Klostermann said. “Receiving postseason awards is a reflection of some on-field success as a team."
Two Northeast Iowa Community College (NICC) baseball players recently earned spots on the 2025-2026 Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Division II All-Region Baseball Team. Freshman first baseman Damin Churchman and freshman pitcher Jack Fenwick were both named to the Honorable Mention team.
Churchman's impact
After a slow start to the season, Churchman found his rhythm at the plate.
"It means a lot to be able to represent NICC and my team in this way," Churchman said. "I'm super proud of myself and my teammates for the work that was put in to make this season happen, it's an honor to be a Cougar. Coming into this season I didn't really know what to expect. I hadn't played in an organized game of baseball in almost two years and college is much different than high school. I tried my best to not worry about the outcomes of my individual success and just keep grinding and stacking days together and eventually I was able to find my stride a little bit."
He hit .318 on the season with 15 extra base hits, including nine home runs. He led the Cougars in runs batted in (31) and posted a .626 slugging percentage. Churchman became a feared force in the middle of the Cougars' lineup, earning recognition from opposing teams and coaches for his performance.
"Damin has worked really hard to put himself in a position to have success," Head Coach Conner Klostermann said. "He made some key adjustments at the midway point of the season, which helped him put together the type of year he had. Churchman will have a big role for us next year and I'm excited to see what he can put together."
Fenwick's contribution
Fenwick was a workhorse on the mound all season for the College.
"There are so many good players in this conference," Fenwick said, "so to be recognized like that in my first year is really special. I put a lot of work in leading up to the season, and my coaches and teammates helped put me in that position to perform well. I mainly focused on helping the team in the best way I could."
He started eight games and made three relief appearances. Over those 11 appearances, he had a 9.44 strikeout per nine innings pitched rate and totaled 50 strikeouts over 47 2⁄3 innings in 2026 to go along with two complete games. Every time Jack took the mound, the team knew they had a chance to win.
"Jack really gave us a chance to win with every start he had," Klostermann said. "He is composed on the mound and has shown he has the stuff to get outs consistently. It'll be a big summer for him to continue to develop and get stronger. We are excited to have him back next year as a cornerstone of our pitching staff."
Inaugural season reflections
"We are happy to come away with two all-region selections after year one," Klostermann said. "Receiving postseason awards is a reflection of some on-field success as a team. And as we continue to move forward as a program, our standards internally and the expectations externally from fans and supporters are going to continue to increase."
