Cougar sport shooters completed conference play this past Saturday against Southeastern Community College. In a meet that saw some ups and downs, Northeast Iowa Community College (NICC) dropped the dual to the Blackhawks 456-432.
Windy conditions impacted the meet, creating complications for shooters on both teams, but Alexis Elsbernd (93) managed to come out on top of the female shooters. Marshall Schiphoff matched her score, and placed second in the men's division.
"Even though we didn't win," Schiphoff said, "we all shot well despite the windy conditions."
"The wind tested us today," Elsbernd said. "Although I was consistent with my score from previous events, we still lost which is always disappointing."
Elizabeth Ward (86) was the only other Cougar to place among the top five, and other NICC scores were Colton Tollefsrud (82), Ty Kenan (78), Brendan Doty (72), Logan Frye (71), Gunnar Thorson (68) and Ben H. (59).
"Despite battling tough winds," Head Coach Anthony Sisneros said, "we showed determination throughout the competition. We now have to turn our focus to the upcoming regional event, where we'll face even more top-tier talent."
The Cougars next travel to Sparta, Ill., on Oct. 12 for the Fall Central Midwest Conference Championships. Stay up-to-date with all NICC Athletics at niccathletics.com.
