Cougars battle top teams at regional shoot-out
“The regional competition served as an excellent test for us,” Head Coach Anthony Sisneros said. “It provided our student-athletes with the opportunity to compete at a new range and face programs they don’t typically encounter.”
Northeast Iowa Community College (NICC) sport shooters traveled to Sparta, Ill., on Oct. 12 for the 2025 Collegiate Fall Central Midwest Conference Championships. The Cougars battled top teams from around the country that gave them all they could handle.
Colton Tollefsrud and Marshall Schiphoff tied for 104th place in the men's division with a score of 92. Alexis Elsbernd was the top female NICC shooter scoring 90 to place 29th overall.
Elizabeth Ward (89), Logan Frye (85), Gunnar Thorson (84), Ethan Harms (75), Ty Kenan (73) and Brendan Doty (70) added scores as well for the Cougars.
The team finished 15th out of 19 schools, with a combined score of 448. Drury University Shotgun Sports from Missouri edged out Fort Hays State University, UT Southern Clay Target and Bethel University by one point to win the shoot-out 498-497.
"The regional competition served as an excellent test for us," Head Coach Anthony Sisneros said. "It provided our student-athletes with the opportunity to compete at a new range and face programs they don't typically encounter."
The event drew top programs from 11 states, including Missouri, Kansas and Tennessee.
"We delivered a strong performance," Sisneros said, "but ultimately fell just short of the podium. We'll now shift our focus to preparation for the upcoming Iowa State Championships."
