Nenne named ICCAC Athlete of the Week
“What clicked for me most was my pitch recognition early in every count,” Natalie Nenne said. “I trusted my timing and swing to find the barrel and hit the ball hard.
The Cougar softball team's bats were on fire to start their season last weekend in Rochester, Minn., scoring 50 runs in four games. All of those runs resulted in a 3-1 weekend for NICC, and Natalie Nenne was one of the reasons the lineup was rolling early in the year.
Nenne had 11 hits in 17 at bats, nine runs scored, eight runs batted in, four doubles, one triple, one home run, two stolen bases and no strikeouts. That stat line was good enough to get her recognized as one of the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference's (ICCAC) Softball Athletes of the Week.
"Natalie constantly demonstrates the qualities of a true leader," Assistant Coach Kailee Pollard said, "and her dedication to the team is unmatched. Her performance this weekend shows her hard work and commitment."
The NICC sophomore starting shortstop didn't miss a beat to start the season. Her veteran bat helped propel several Cougar rallies in Rochester, ultimately resulting in tallies in the win column.
"What clicked for me most was my pitch recognition early in every count," Nenne said. "I trusted my timing and swing to find the barrel and hit the ball hard. It's really exciting to get recognized early, but I know we have a very competitive schedule ahead. My goal is to stay consistent, keep improving and doing what it takes to help my team win."
